At the Natural Language Processing Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), we have developed a corpus of over 10,000 chat posts annotated for part-of-speech and dialogue-act. The NPS chat corpus was gathered as part of a project to help detect sexual predators on-line. In this talk I will present the corpus and our initial work on age detection in chat. I will also talk about other NLP work we are doing concerning blogs and chat.
Bio: Craig Martell (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) is an associate professor in computer science at the Naval Postgraduate School. He specializes in natural-language processing applied to on-line chat, weblogs and semantic search.
