The NPS Chat Corpus and Its Application to Age-Detection (and Other NLP Work Going on at NPS)

At the Natural Language Processing Lab at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), we have developed a corpus of over 10,000 chat posts annotated for part-of-speech and dialogue-act. The NPS chat corpus was gathered as part of a project to help detect sexual predators on-line. In this talk I will present the corpus and our initial work on age detection in chat. I will also talk about other NLP work we are doing concerning blogs and chat.

Craig Martell (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) is an associate professor in computer science at the Naval Postgraduate School. He specializes in natural-language processing applied to on-line chat, weblogs and semantic search.
