Text Independent Speaker Verification: Recent Advances and Future Trends

This talk is an overview on the recent advances in speaker verification, as well as the trends that seems to emerge from the community. I will talk about the evolution of the techniques that are used in speaker verification, through the dramatic changes that occurred in recent years. I will also focus on two events that highlight the research in the speaker recognition nowadays: the NIST SRE 2008 evaluation and the 2008 Johns Hopkins University Workshop. While the former shows the increasing complexity of the speaker recognition task, the latter gives an idea on what is next for Speaker Verification in general.
