Parking Information

Parking in Downtown Berkeley can be tricky, and usually requires either a little exploring, or a little money. All the on-street parking in ICSI's immediate vicinity is metered, and therefore is time-limited. This may or may not be the ideal choice for you when attending meetings here.

Although much of Berkeley's street parking is zoned for local residential use, there are zones where you can find all-day parking on the street, and these areas are marked on the map with blue. Please note that these spots are only recommendations, so make sure to check for street signs regarding time limits and street sweeping to make sure it is a valid parking spot.

There are two garages and two lots nearby, all within a short walk of ICSI. They are marked on the map with orange, and their information is given below, beginning with the northernmost and progressing south.

Additionally, another option is to park at the North Berkeley BART station at 1750 Sacramento Street. Parking at the BART station is $1 for the entire day, and a round-trip ticket between the stations is another $3.50. From the North Berkeley station, you'll want to board either a Fremont train or a San Francisco train and get off at the next stop, Downtown Berkeley. You'll take a Richmond train for the return trip. Trains run every 7-8 minutes during business hours, and transit time is only 3 minutes.

Building History

ICSI occupies a 28,000 square foot research facility located at 1947 Center Street, Suite 600, Berkeley CA, 94704-1198. ICSI is just two blocks from the central U.C. Campus in downtown Berkeley. It is about a 15 minute walk from Cory or Soda Hall to ICSI.

1947 Center Street, a six story office building in the Art Deco style, was designed in 1947 by Berkeley architect, James W. Placheck, for the State Farm Insurance Company. The building forms a handsome companion to Placheck's Farm Credit Building, the present City Hall, and the Civic Center Park, giving the historic Berkeley Civic Center a unified architectural style.
